Dr. Green has received extensive special training in dental sedation.  Less than 10% of dentists in the country are qualified in sedation dentistry.  Patients come from all around southern Indiana and Illinois to be treated using this comfortable, safe and effective system.

What is Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation dentistry uses medicine called Triazolam or Halcion to help you be relaxed and comfortable for your appointment.  Two small pills are taken 45 minutes prior to your visit.  These tablets have been prescribed millions of times each year, by physicians, for patient's at home use.  This drug has nearly no side effects or interactions with other medications that you may be taking.

How long does Dental Sedation last?

For the majority of patients, dental sedation effects last between 2-4 hours.  We recommend that the patient not drive for 24 hours after taking the medication in order to make clear decisions.  We require the patient to have someone drive them to and from our office and remain at our office during treatment.

Do I really sleep during Conscious Sedation?

Conscious sedation is often referred to as sleep dentistry because most patients tend to fall asleep, however, you can still respond to verbal commands.  The goal of sedation dentistry is for the patient to be as comfortable and relaxed as possible.

How do we monitor Sedation Dentistry?

We constantly monitor our sedated patients using a pulse oximeter, which measures heart rate and oxygen level.  We also have a reversal agent in office that reverses the effect of the dental sedation medicine in less than 30 seconds.
